Did you know? Most people have at least one mole!

These small spots appear on our skin due to a cluster of pigment-producing cells called melanocytes.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Moles are very common: Nearly everyone has at least one, often appearing in childhood or adolescence.
  • Light skin tones tend to have more moles: People with lighter skin are more likely to have a higher number of moles.
  • Most moles are harmless: While some may not be the most attractive, they usually don’t pose a health risk.

However, some moles might raise concerns:

  • Large or unusual moles: If a mole is large, changes color or shape, or bleeds easily, it’s best to consult a dermatologist.
  • Emotional distress: Some people find visible moles to be bothersome.

If you have any concerns about a mole, talk to a doctor or dermatologist. They can examine it and provide you with peace of mind or recommend the next steps.

Ways to Get Rid of Mole or Warts?

  • Liquid Nitrogen – a small quantity of liquid nitrogen can be sprayed or dabbed onto the offending mole to freeze it. A small blister may appear on the treatment area but will heal after the treatment.
  • Cauterization – a wire with a small electrical charge is used to burn the pigmented skin growth. Local anesthetic is used to ease any discomfort.
  • Surgical removal – in some cases surgical removal may be required, whereby the mole is removed with a scalpel or surgical scissors. This may be most appropriate for moles that are in certain areas, such as close to the eye or on the neck near the jugular. Deep rooted moles would necessitate a deeper incision and stitches. In all surgical cases, local anaesthetic would be applied to the treatment area beforehand to ease any discomfort.
